a Guide to Biking in Paradise!

Two-Wheeled Bliss: Tips for Biking in Key West

Biking is probably the perfect method of getting around Key West for both residents and visitors. A single stroll down Duval Street will attest to this as you notice that if it is not moving it probably has a bicycle chained to it. The island is almost flat so peddling is easy and much faster than walking while still offering a pace that allows you to take in the beauty of our little piece of paradise. Distances are counted in blocks as you pedal from one attraction to the next and there are none of the infamous parking woes drivers face.

You can bring your own or rent one from one of the many bike rental concessions on the island for around $15/day for a standard single speed beach cruiser. Trikes, bicycles built for two and even E-bikes are also available but are more expensive and typically in shorter supply so shopping around and reserving in advance is reccommended.

Biking is well integrated into the local culture with drivers tending to be mindful of cyclist, relativly slow road speeds and dedicated or shared bike lanes on many roads. Bike parking is not a problem as most businesses either have their own bike racks or close by public racks.

If time or desire rules out exploring our island on your own there are also a number or organized tours available. There are also organized bike rides that part of several festivals and events. The most famous is the zombie bike ride during Fantasy Fest where literally thousands of riders, many costumed, join together and peddle around town. While standard beach cruisers are generally available whenever you feel like taking a ride be aware that during these special events they too might be best reserved in advance just like the trikes, tandam and E-bikes.
