Getting around in Paradise!

How to Get around in Key West

Pretty near everything visitors come to do is located in the southwestern square mile of the island called Old Town so where you are staying will largely dictate your transportation needs. Driving is easy, parking no so much and tends to cost $4/hr.

Most things to do are within blocks of each other so walking is a viable choice for getting around. Bikes are probably the most popular option as bikes, trikes and even ebikes are available for rent starting at about $15/day. As far as motorized methods scooters are undoubtedly the most popular choice with one and two seaters available, these are fun but are a little more difficult to park than bikes. You'll also see a good number of golf carts available from traditional styles to kit carts with little sports car inspired bodies and even more exotic trike models. You usually can choose between electric and gas models with the latter more suited for multi-day stays as finding somewhere to recharge an ecart can be difficult and parking for all of the carts is the same as parking a car.

Rentals times usually have a 4 hour half day minimum, followed by an 8 hr rate then overnight with considerable discounts for multi-day rentals. Single seat scooters usually rnge between $30 and $40 for a half day and slightly more for a two seater. Basic golf carts usually range between $75-100 for a half day rental. The cost to lengthen to an 8 hr or overnight rental are typically much cheaper per hour than the half day rate. Many vendors offer a pick-up or drop off sevice.

All of these rentals can be in short supply during the busy season January - June especially during special events like Fantasy Fest, Superboat races and New Years Eve.
